Named after the hockey
legend Maurice "The Rocket" Richard, this
circular arena building houses an
international-sized ice rink with seating for
4,750 spectators. Today, the building is
home to the national short-track speed skating
team. It is also used for hockey and
figure skating, as well as boxing and
wrestling events and curling
championships. It has also hosted
concerts.
Built in the 1960s it was
used during the 1976 Summer Olympics as a
venue for boxing and wrestling. The
"http://www.qmjhlarenaguide.com" website says
of the building that it is, " ... a
circle of yellow and white concrete with
doors on each side of the building. A
statue of the eponymous hockey star sits
in front of the building on rue Viau,
complementing it perfectly."
