Description
This 18-storey office block was built as a tax office.   Pevsner says of it, "Set back from and at an angle to the street, which adds to its gravitas....The high block has concete framing and Portland stone cladding, channelled to give texture."  Ian Nairn in "Britain's Changing Towns, 1967, believed it to be, "easily the best modern building in Manchester, and an outstanding example of what good proportions and straightforward design can do."
