Description
The style of the monument has been
described as "functionalism". It is built
of marble and granite sourced in Czech
territory. In front of the monument is the
largest equestrian statue in Europe designed by
Jan Zizka. The statue itself is 9 metres
high but together with the pedestal it stands 22
metres high. The model from which the
casting was made was hidden away in sections
during WWII and reassembled and cast after the
war.
After two years of refurbishment, the National
Monument reopened to the public in 2009.
