Description
Montaagu Pyke is the name of this Weatherspoon's pub on Charing Cross Road.  The pub is named after the man who was known as the "Cinema King" since at the beginning of the 20th century he ran a fleet of cinemas across London.  In the beginning these cinemas were converted shops but this one was purpose built and opened on August 26, 1911 as the Cambridge Circus Cinematograph Theatre.  Apparently, Mr Pyke was something of a rogue and ended up accused of manslaughter when one of his emploiyees died in a fire at this cinema.  He was acquitted of the charge.  This was Pyke's fourteenth and last cinema.
