Description
This purpose built department store was commissioned by the Nordiska Kompaniet, literally the Nordic Company.

It features an internal steel load-bearing structure and is clad in granite.  It was designed by Ferdinand Boberg, Sweden's foremost art nouveau architect.  On the roof is a revolving sign constructed by L M Ericsson.  One side features the NK logo in green and a clock in red on the other.

In 1961–63, the original building was extended along the facade on Regeringsgatan to a design by the architect Hans Asplund.

The NK website adds that, "... When Josef Sachs founded Nordiska Kompaniet in 1902 he had a clear vision. The great department store NK was to be a commercial and cultural theatre - a contemporary stage. Grand words maybe, but they still permeate through every aspect of NK.  The luxury department store on Hamngatan, Stockholm, opened in 1915.  Ever since, many iconic personalities have visited and exclusive launches have taken place here.  NK is known to always be one step ahead of the game."
