The Lancaster Hotel

This grand Victorian hotel sat on the corner of Stockport Road and Plymouth Grove West until it finally succumbed to fire.  It appears in a Directory for 1895, when the landlady was Mrs. Amelia Hyland.  You can see it, indicated by a red arrow in the aerial image below, dated 1953.


Below, you can see the Lancaster in its later years Only the windows on the ground floor and the pillars beside the door remain from the original structure. Notice in the background the old St. Joseph's Industrial School that became the Longsight Police Station. It was later demolished and a new police station built on the same site. 


Below is the same site in 2009.  The Lancaster is gone.  On the far left of the image you can just see the new Longsight Police Station.
