This pub was a surprise to me. I was completely unaware of the fact that a pub once stood on the corner of Stockport Road and Kirkmanshulme Lane. However, as these old postcards clearly show the Belle Vue Gardens pub did sit at this busy intersection in the middle of the 19th century. It is likely that at least some of the people in the picture were making the short walk down Kirkmanshulme Lane and under the railway bridge to sample the pleasures of the Belle Vue Zoological Gardens. |
