church
sat on that promontory of land between Birch Lane and Plymouth
Grove.
It dates back to the 1880s and for a while was associated with the Rev. William Gaskell, father of the author Elizabeth Gaskell, who was a famous writer and a friend to the Brontes. When I was a child this church had already closed as a religious institution and was, as shown in the photograph below, a garage for the BBC. |
